SCRIBBLING EXPLORERS

We haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on our list.

£2 well spent in Sukhothai

We only have today in Sukhothai and that is solely to visit the historic park that is home to the best temple ruins in Thailand. The park was only a 20 minute walk from our hotel so after the predictable eggs and toast for breakfast we set off to explore. As with most things in Thailand, entry was very cheap, at £2 each it was a bargain. Where to start! Upon entering we headed for Sat Mahathat, th [...]

Our brush with the law

The day started with us not really knowing what to do. The main reason we had come to Pattaya was to see what all the fuss was about down the Walking Street after dark, showcasing this town as the Sin City of the world. After checking some things out online we had a rough plan and hired another Hog and set off with the Sanctuary of Truth as our first destination. The Sanctuary of Truth is a replic [...]

Never again

Today is going to be a very long day. In a bid to save money we’re embarking on what should be an 18 hour journey from Koh Samui to Pattaya. A trip that could quite easily have been achieved in a few hours by plane. Oh no we’ll be fine we thought, we’ll save money, the overnight drive will be fun. Fun, ha, how wrong could we be. Dear diary.. 9.30: I get up and jump straight in the pool for an earl [...]

One of those amazing days

We woke up to the sun beaming through our windows this morning. Finally a sunny day, we can go out and enjoy the island instead of being stuck inside. What made today extra special that we took it upon ourselves to buy bacon, eggs and beans so we could have a decent start to the day. We had to run downstairs to cook some toast in the hotels toaster but it was worth it. Amazing! The first stop on o [...]

First sight of a mummified monk

First thing on the agenda today was finding a motorbike to hire. As our hotel is quite centrally located on the island, it’s not near any beaches meaning we can’t just pop out and stroll to nearby restaurants. This isn’t a problem for us but does mean we need some wheels. After stupidly sitting outside the nearest rental shop for 15 minutes we then read the opening hours properly and realised they [...]

Koh Tao Diving: What to expect when learning to dive

Both Hayley and I have always wanted to learn to dive and knew, at some point, we would learn so that when we “one day” went to Australia we could dive the Great barrier Reef. This was all before the plans of travelling and property investing but something that we never really got around to doing. Thankfully we didn’t do it in the UK and opted for Koh Tao diving instead. Koh Tao is a small island [...]

Mmm homemade spag bol

It’s been a while since we’ve been in a hotel with a buffet breakfast so we were eager beavers this morning and down by 8:30am. We thought this would be early enough but apparently not, half the food was gone and after waiting about 10 minutes it looked like it wasn’t getting refilled. Note to self, get down by 8am tomorrow. It wasn’t too bad though we had some eggs on toast, cereal and I tried th [...]

The beautiful island of Nangyuan

We’ve been staying on Koh Tao Island for 8 nights, the longest time we have stayed anywhere since leaving the UK 6 months ago. Originally we only planned 5 nights but due to the diving course we had to extend it, I’m glad we did as it’s lovely here and the diving has been great. Sadly it’s time to say goodbye today though as we head back to Koh Samui for 10 days. I’ve wanted to visit the Nangyuan [...]
