SCRIBBLING EXPLORERS

We haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on our list.

A long day in San Fran

I woke up to an alarm today for the first time in weeks (I don’t miss that sound). We were up at 5am to set off on the 4 hour drive from Yosemite to San Fransisco. After much yawning along the way and a few power naps we arrived at our not so glamorous hotel at around 10am. Hotels in San Fransisco are pretty pricey so we just went for the cheapest central option, it was still £60 a night but upon [...]

Rainbow Falls

We started the day with the Mist Trail hike. This is a 7 mile hike with 2000 elevation change and goes by two waterfalls. My climbing guide said if we was going to do it, be hiking by 8:30 as to miss all the day hikers and that really paid off. We got up at 7 AM and went to the village store to buy some some milk. We then headed over to the start of the hike and had our cereal in the car. We set o [...]

River rapids [Inc. Video]

Today we finally brushed the dust from the credit card and opted to do something that wasn’t free (as painful as it was). Our legs needed a rest so we thought a morning on a water raft would be a nice way to relax and soak up the views. They’re very protective of their wildlife here so only part of the river is available for recreational use. I say only, it’s still a 3 mile stretch you get to padd [...]

Bear scare

Today was one of the best days of my life, I got to hire a climbing instructor and do a multiple pitch traditional climb. The multi pitch means my guide would climb up 30-50 meters and then I would climb up after him. He would then climb another 30-50 meters and I would follow. There were 5 pitches, about 150 - 200 meters in total. What traditional means is that there were no drilled bolts in the [...]

These boots weren’t made for walking

It’s day 2 camping in Yosemite at Camp4, the place where convenience, comfort and hygiene go out the window! The comforts of the 5 star Las Vegas hotel with A/C, walk in shower, kitchen and queen size bed (oh how I miss those things) has been replaced by our 2 man tent from Kmart. Nick insisted on us staying at Camp4 as it’s where all the climbers stay, however it’s also the only campsite without [...]

Day one in Yosemite

We arrived at Yosemite National Park this morning. I wanted to stay in Camp 4 (the climbers campground), but this site works on a first come first served bases and registration was at 8:30. According to the internet you should get there early to queue and due to the the 7 night maximum stay restriction we knew there would be spaces each day with people leaving. With that in mind we woke up at 5 AM [...]
